Stomach bloating is uncomfortable and unattractive. There are a couple very common causes for stomach bloating
- Food Sensitivities
A food sensitivity is like a mild food allergy. Even though the symptoms are not as severe as a full blown allergy; inflammation, indigestion and bloating occurs. The most common foods that people have food sensitivities to are soy, dairy and wheat.
- Not enough fiber in your diet
Fiber is a carbohydrate where the bonds between the sugar molecules are so strong that the human digestive system can’t break them apart. As a result, fiber is not digested and it passes through the digestive system intact. It gives your digestive system a sort of ‘internal scrubbing’ and keeps you regular. Most North Americans don’t get close to the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of 25-30 grams per day. If you struggle with getting enough fiber in your diet, consider using a fiber supplement such as psyllium husk.
- Candida and lack of probiotics in your diet
Candida is a yeast overgrowth and imbalance of gut flora in your digestive tract. Antibiotics, a diet high in refined sugar and birth control supplements can all lead to candida. To successfully treat candida, you need to do stop the yeast overgrowth and build up the friendly bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. To stop the growth, you will need to eliminate all the refined sugar and processed carbohydrates from your diet. Be careful for hidden sugars in foods like yogurt and granola bars. To build up the friendly bacteria in your GI tract, increase your consumption of fermented foods like yogurt, kombucha, kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi.
- Not detoxifying regularly
Your GI tract is a very intricate system approximately 30 feet long. It’s very easy for waste to get built up along the way and back everything up. If your intestines contain backed up fecal matter, your abdomen will round out and become distended. A lot of people will use laxatives as a temporary solution. Laxatives work but they are addictive and if used long enough, you won’t be able to poop without them. Natural alternatives are always best. The product I recommend is Wholy Tea by Innotech Nutrition. It is very effective but none of the ingredients are addictive so you will have no problems pooping once you are done the cleanse.
